Renowned golf teacher Jim McLean's The 8-Step Swing provides a lifetime's worth of golf magazine tips compressed into an 80-minute video, which is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the video will overwhelm most golfers if they watch it in one sitting. Not only does McLean break the full golf swing into eight distinct steps, or checkpoints, but at each step he provides a wealth of tips, drills, and "death moves" (faults from which no golfer can recover). Trying to keep all these pointers in mind on the golf course would be impossible. But for the golfer with the patience to consume the video in small doses, McLean's advice can help piece together a fundamentally sound full golf swing. None of the tips here are unique or unconventional. The strength of McLean's video is in the breadth of traditional fundamentals covered.
As with all golf instructional videos, The 8-Step Swing will benefit best those golfers who have a good kinesthetic sense of their body and club during the swing. Those who do not should videotape themselves to see if they are following the instruction properly. Note that McLean focuses exclusively on the full golf swing in this video and doesn't examine putting or the short game. Golfers who enjoy the video may also wish to pick up McLean's book The Eight-Step Swing: A Revolutionary Golf Technique by a Pro Coach for an easier way to look up specific tips and drills. --Eugene Wei

anlytical approach to a repeatable swing
Although some of my friends thought there was too much detail (and I did on first viewing), this video becomes more and more simple the more you view it and practice his steps. Indeed, the beauty of the video is that it is detailed and can serve as a one stop clinic for developing the same swing that the pros use (and most good golfers even if not pros). Try it and review it over and over after you practice. It is very good and I am a highly critical person. It is not for people who are intuitive about their swing but is excellent for people who are analytical.
The eight step golf swing
This is the first golf video that I have purchased. I has been more than 10 years since I have played. I was not much of a player before. Working with a large mirror and this tape, I was able to correct errors in my swing. This makes golf a lot more fun. The golf swing takes a very short amount of time, and I think that breaking it down into 8 steps gives detail to every part of the swing. The drills that he gives helps to get the actual feel of the instruction before you go out on the fairway. I was able to lower my score by some 20 strokes. I consider this video the best thing that has happened to my game.
Only for the serious golfer
I am a self tought golfer and have wondered for years what I was really supposed to be doing; now I know. This video is extremely detailed and may confusing to a beginner. However, if you're serious about being good then this is the tape for you.
